Art - Studio art classes help students express themselves through creativity and imagination.

Band - Each student is given the opportunity to learn an instrument, read music, and perform in band recitals.

Computer - Curriculum is the Engine; Technology is the Tool

Students at St. John's attend computer class from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Our technology curriculum follows the state and national standards for technology instruction. By graduation, students will have mastered the features of Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. They will become effective internet researchers and proficient users of 21st century technologies.

In Kindergarten, we begin with exposure to the parts of a computer and tools of a program. Students learn the basic parts of a computer and learn how to manipulate the tools of a graphic arts program. They will use educational learning programs and websites to reinforce grade level skills.

Grade 1 and 2 continue doing skills reinforcement activities. Keyboarding is introduced and they will learn what the special keys are for. Microsoft Word is used and students learn the basic features of the program. They do enjoy using their creative skills when formatting color, size, font, style, and clip art!

Grade 3 to 5 begin to use PowerPoint and create presentations that integrate with topics being studied in the classroom. In Excel, they will create spreadsheets and graph the results. They will begin to learn how to access information online and do WebQuests. The students are excited to be learning these new technology skills!

Grade 6 to 8 continue to hone their skills in Microsoft Office by learning more advanced features of each of its programs. Their completed projects are impressive! Internet research skills are emphasized and they will learn how to critique a website to determine its value as a source of information.

Our well-equipped lab contains PCs with Windows XP Pro, high speed internet, Microsoft Office Professional, scanner, color laserjet printing, multimedia projector, and a SmartBoard interactive whiteboard system.

We look forward to an enjoyable learning experience!
