North End of Boston, Massachusetts

Dear Families,

As we go through our life’s journey, we make many decisions which we hope will improve ourselves and those around us. During this school year, and particularly during the Christmas vacation, I did much praying and thinking about my future. I have concluded that the time is right for me to move on to a more idyllic life style. Therefore, I will retire from St. John’s at the conclusion of this school year. This has not been an easy decision, but I do believe it is the correct one for me and the community of both St. John’s and the North End.

In my years at St. John’s, I have watched the students grow from nearly babies into adolescents. I have also had the distinct pleasure of seeing these students become adults, parents, and important members of our community.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all families present and past, for their continuous support during all my twenty eight years as principal. Without this, I would not have been able to work with the staff to achieve the goals necessary to attain the academic excellence at St. John’s. Also, I must acknowledge the ongoing contributions of the North End community which certainly helped to make St. John’s a true star in our community.

These next six months will indeed be a challenge for me. As each day progresses, I will realize that my time at St. John’s is coming to a conclusion. However, I promise you the new principal; Mrs. Karen McLaughlin will promote the teachings and carry on the fine traditions at our school. Mrs. McLaughlin comes to St. John’s with over 15 years of administrative experience as a Catholic school principal.

You will have the opportunity to meet Mrs. McLaughlin during the month of April.

I ask each of you for your prayers and support and I will always pray to our dear Lord for the continued success of St. John’s school.

May God Bless,

Sr. Eileen Harvey, CSJ

Principal
