Please do not read the following books:
1. “The War with Grandpa” by Robert Kimmel Smith 2. “The Best Worst Christmas Pageant” by Barbara Robinson 3. “Frindle” by Andrew Clements 4. “Shiloh” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
I have enough of the above books for the class. I’m only telling you about these books so you won’t read them. It will not help you to read these ahead of time; it will only make you bored rereading the story. You are required to read 3 books for Summer Reading and complete the book reports that I have explained on page 3. The books should be enjoyable and the assignments pretty easy to complete.
1. “Chocolate Fever” by Robert Kimmel Smith 2. “The Borrowers” by Mary Norton 3. “The Best/Worst School Year Ever” by Barbara Robinson
I would like you to read at least 1 hour a week; how you divide the time is up to you. Example:
20 minutes - 3 times a week. Your assigned books will be able to count as part of the 1 hour a week. If you look on line there is a general book report form (page 4), you may fill it out and receive credit for any extra reading. I will talk to you in the Fall about book reports.
Summer Reading Book Reports
Complete A, B, and C for the book reports.
1. “Chocolate Fever” by Robert Kimmel Smith News Report: Be a reporter for The Boston Globe and write a news report of a scene from the book. Be sure to name the main characters and the setting. Draw a picture to go along with the report.
2. “The Best/Worst School Year Ever” by Barbara Robinson Reading Test: You are to make a test with an answer sheet for the book. There should be 10 or 15 questions. They can be: true/false, multiple choice, and/or essays. Also include a scene from the story but do not color it in. Make it look like a coloring book page.
3. “The Borrowers” by Mary Norton Diorama: Make a diorama (using a shoe box), showing me a room the Borrowers might live in. Show me the inventive ways the Borrowers used things. In your diorama show me how these things might be used by the Borrowers: a paper cup, a straw, a sticker, a paper clip, and a cotton ball. You may use other items too. Please no toys or doll house furniture. Be creative! Where would they live in YOUR house? Please include a short report telling me about the book. Have a great summer, play, read, relax and have fun! Be prepared to work, read, learn and have fun in the fall. See you in September. Mrs. D’Errico
